What Homeowners Can Expect During a Driveway or Excavation Project
January 21, 2026Paving Over an Old Driveway: When It Works and When It Doesn’t
January 21, 2026It’s easy to judge a driveway by how it looks when the job is finished. Smooth surface, clean edges, nice color — everything appears right. The problem is that appearance doesn’t tell the full story.
We’ve seen this firsthand on homes around Lebanon where a driveway was only a few years old but already cracking or sinking. On closer inspection, the issue wasn’t the asphalt itself — it was shallow excavation and a base that was never properly compacted.
What actually determines how long a driveway lasts is what’s underneath it. If excavation isn’t deep enough, if the base isn’t compacted correctly, or if poor soil is left in place, problems are almost guaranteed.
For homeowners, the most important questions to ask aren’t about how it will look on day one, but how it’s being built from the ground up.
